Things to Do and Story Round Up October 17

What adventures will you have this week in Bar Harbor?

I’m just one person and very imperfect, so some weeks there will be more news than others as I try to fit things around my editing novels, podcasting, and writing my own books and actually making a living, but here you go!

*By request, at the end of this post, I’m going to paste in the upcoming Halloween events as well, so some items may be here twice this week and next.*

Here are the links to our stories from the past week in case you missed any.

BE A HERO!

To check if Bar Harbor Fire Department is currently hiring, please go to the town’s jobs page.

But even if it isn’t you can become a call member

Becoming a call force firefighter requires extensive training, hard work, and dedication to the community. We rely on call force firefighters to respond quickly to emergencies, to perform firefighting duties, and to provide assistance and support to career firefighters. To be a fall force firefighter is to have a chance to aid and serve the community, which is an extremely rewarding experience.

Gunnar Hansen Lives On!

Gunnar Hansen who died in 2015, was known for his role in the popular film, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, in addition to being a multi-dimensional man.  Locally on Mount Desert Island, he was known as an historian, with several books and films to his name.  In 2013 the Jesup hosted Hansen when his book Chainsaw Confidential was published.  Some people attended because of his acting, some because of his work in history and writing, some for his local history film-making, and others who just knew him as a friend. That presentation allowed all who participated to know him as a complete human being.
