SOUTHWEST HARBOR—According to the weekly press release from the Southwest Harbor Police Department, on August 24 at approximately 8:41 p.m., someone reported that some juveniles were using a slow/stop sign in traffic on Main Street in Southwest Harbor.
Officer James Kamorski responded to the complaint, located the juveniles, confiscated the sign, and “educated the juveniles on the dangers of their actions.”
Then at approximately 9:02 p.m., Officer Kamorski responded to a noise complaint in Southwest Harbor and discovered it was the same juveniles that had been using the slow/stop sign on Main Street.
There were no further reported issues with the juveniles.
BAR HARBOR AND MOUNT DESERT POLICE LOGS
The press releases for the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department will most likely be delayed until tomorrow due to not being released by press time.

The following incidents occurred in Southwest Harbor or Tremont last week according to the Southwest Harbor Police Department police log, which is publicly released information.
Monday, August 18, 2025
Officer Kamorski assisted the ambulance service on a medical call in Southwest Harbor.
Officer Kamorski assisted the Ellsworth Police Department in Southwest Harbor with a case.
After investigating a report of harassment in Southwest Harbor, Officer Kamorski determined that the claim was false.
Officer Kamorski responded with the Southwest Harbor Fire Department to a report of an unattended fire in Southwest Harbor. The fire was attended and the parties had a water hose on hand.
Officer Kamorski assisted Acadia National Park with a motor vehicle crash on the Seal Cove Road in Tremont.
Officer Kamorski took a report regarding a civil issue in Southwest Harbor.
Tuesday, August 19, 2025
Officer Rick Graham responded to a report of a vehicle parked on the Clark Point Road in Southwest Harbor that was sticking partially into the roadway. The vehicle was leaving its parked position when Officer Graham was arriving.
Officer Graham assisted an Acadia National Park ranger with investigations at Southwest Harbor and Tremont residences.
Someone from Virginia called the Southwest Harbor Police Department and reported that their adult child who was visiting the area had not been heard from. The person was located in Hancock, Maine and was fine.
Wednesday, August 20, 2025
After receiving a report of someone trying to flag drivers down with a flashlight on Route 102 in Southwest Harbor, Officer Graham responded and determined that it was a delivery driver who had accidentally locked his truck keys inside of this truck. A tow company was called to assist.
Officer Kristen Roulet responded to a report of a truck pulling a horse trailer with open rear doors in Southwest Harbor but was unable to locate the truck and trailer.
After receiving a report of screaming from a trailer near the caller in Southwest Harbor, Officer Roulet responded and “it was determined a juvenile was having a battle with their virtual reality headset and was losing the game causing massive meltdowns and screaming.”
Officer Kamorski performed a requested well-being check in Southwest Harbor and found the person to be fine.
Officer Kamorski is investigating a report of theft at Hamilton Marine in Southwest Harbor.
Someone in Tremont who was operating heavy machinery generated multiple noise complaints from the Lighthouse Road area. When Officer Roulet responded she found that the heavy machinery operator was wrapping up for the day.
Officer Bradley Russell assisted the Southwest Harbor Fire Department with a report of an unattended fire in Southwest Harbor.
Thursday, August 21, 2025
Officer Kamorski responded to a motor vehicle complaint in Southwest Harbor but could not locate the offending vehicle.
Officer Roulet assisted the ambulance service with a medical call in Southwest Harbor.
Officer Roulet responded to a report of someone refusing to get out of the water by “the water pump” in Southwest Harbor, but there was nobody in the water when she arrived.
Officer Roulet assisted the Maine Department of Health and Human Services in Southwest Harbor.
Officer Russell responded to a call in Southwest Harbor regarding a deer that had been hit by a vehicle and was laying in the middle of the road. When Officer Russell arrived, the deer was standing and walked into the woods.
After receiving a 911 call from a resident regarding fireworks being shot off, Officer Russell responded and failed to locate any fireworks.
Officer Russell responded to a complaint from a Southwest Harbor resident that their neighbor had left their water hose on and it was flooding the complainant’s yard. Officer Russell was able to remedy the situation.
Friday, August 22, 2025
A Tremont resident reported that someone was outside of their residence at approximately 4:00 a.m. Officer Russell responded, searched the property, and could not locate anyone.
Officer Russell responded to a report of someone swimming in an off-limits area in Southwest Harbor but could not locate any swimmers upon arrival.
The Southwest Harbor Police Department held a back-to-school event at Archie’s Lobster in Tremont.
Officer Kamorski spoke with someone about an animal problem in Southwest Harbor and was able to resolve the issue.
After receiving a motor vehicle complaint in Southwest Harbor, Officer Kamorski responded but failed to locate the suspect vehicle.
Saturday, August 23, 2025
Officer Graham assisted the ambulance service on a medical call in Southwest Harbor.
Officer Graham assisted the ambulance service on a second medical call in Southwest Harbor.
Officer Graham responded to a report of a subject with dementia being located on the Wonderland Trail off Seawall Road in Southwest Harbor. The wanderer was taken back to her residence.
Officer Graham assisted the ambulance service on a non-medical call in Southwest Harbor by helping get someone back into their bed.
After receiving a report of a residential burglar alarm in Southwest Harbor, Officer Graham responded, checked the residence, and found it to be secure, and notified the owners.
Officer Graham responded to a report of some type of alarm going off in the reporting party’s home in Southwest Harbor. By the time Officer Graham arrived, the alarm had stopped and no issues could be located.

Officer Graham assisted the ambulance service on a medical call in Southwest Harbor.
After investigating a reported verbal domestic on Seawall Road in Southwest Harbor, Officer Kamorski warned one person for disorderly conduct.
Officer Kamorski responded to a report of fireworks being shot off in Tremont and was able to locate the offender, issuing them a warning for disorderly conduct.

Officer Kamorski assisted the Southwest Harbor Fire Department with a fire on the Seal Cove Road in Southwest Harbor. The fire department extinguished the fire “without issue.”

These are the Maine State Police press releases from the last few days. The Bar Harbor Story will include these each week though most (and sometimes all) do not occur on Mount Desert Island.
Maine State Police Arrest Camden Man for Possession of Sexually Explicit Materials
CAMDEN—On August 21, 2025, the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit requested an arrest warrant for Thomas Karod, 56, of Camden, for possession of sexually explicit materials, a class C felony, in reference to an ongoing investigation.
A judge reviewed and approved the arrest warrant, and Karod was taken into custody without incident with the assistance of the Damariscotta and Camden Police Departments.
Bail was set at $500 cash with conditions not to use the internet and not to have contact with children under the age of 18.
Maine State Police Investigate Motorcycle Crash in Montville
MONTVILLE—On August 22, 2025, at 7:03 a.m., the Maine State Police (Central Field Troop & Troop K) responded to a report of a single-occupant motorcycle crash near the intersection of South Mountain Valley Highway and Hogback Mount Road in the town of Montville, Waldo County.
When first responders arrived on scene, they located a 50-year-old male unconscious and in serious condition. The operator whose name is not being released at this time was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by Life Flight.
The Maine State Police were assisted on scene by Montville Fire and Rescue and the Maine State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit. The incident is still under investigation, and speed has been determined to be one of the primary causes for the crash. We are asking for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Cpl. Dan Grenier at 207-624-7076 x 9.
Fire Displaces Two in Bucksport; Cause Determined to Be Malfunctioning Dryer

BUCKSPORT—On Sunday, August 24, 2025, shortly after 11:00 a.m., the Bucksport Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 52 U.S. Route 1. Upon arrival, crews encountered smoke and fire conditions originating from the first floor of a two-unit apartment building.
The Bucksport Fire Department requested assistance from the Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate the cause. Investigators determined that the fire originated in the bathroom of the first-floor unit and was caused by a malfunctioning dryer.
Both apartments in the building were deemed uninhabitable, displacing the occupants of each unit. Two cats perished in the fire. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. The American Red Cross was on scene providing assistance to the displaced tenants.
Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Fairfield Fire; Electrical Malfunction Suspected

FAIRFIELD—On Saturday, August 23, 2025, shortly after 9:00 p.m., Fire Marshal’s Office investigators responded to assist the Fairfield Fire Department at the scene of a structure fire on Martin Stream Road in Fairfield. Investigators happened to be passing through the area when the call for service came in and were able to respond promptly.
The fire destroyed the home. The homeowner was not present at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.
Preliminary findings indicate the fire likely originated from an electrical malfunction located within the ceiling structure or wall of the home’s addition. Although further investigation is needed to pinpoint the exact failure, initial fire patterns observed at the scene are consistent with this determination. Fire officials continue to examine the incident to confirm the cause.
Maine State Police Investigating Fatal Crash on I-95 in Plymouth
PLYMOUTH—On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at approximately 1:28 a.m., Maine State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 northbound at mile marker 161 in Plymouth. Troopers arrived to find a 2008 Hyundai on its roof in the median.
The operator, 40-year-old Tyler Cochran of Skagway, Alaska, was deceased at the scene and had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Preliminary investigation indicates that speed and suspected impairment are likely factors in the crash, which remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to contact Trooper Bradley Condon at 207-973-3700, extension 9.
