BAR HARBOR—According to the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department press releases, it would appear as though minors from two different counties came to Bar Harbor to drink and were caught by officers.
On February 4, following a traffic stop by Sgt. Jerrod Hardy in Bar Harbor, a 17-year-old from Ellsworth was issued a summons for alleged operating after suspension. Two passengers in the vehicle were issued summonses for alleged possession of liquor by a minor, James Butler, 18, of Mount Desert and a 14-year-old from Franklin. The 14-year-old was released to a family member.
Then on February 5, Officer Shelby O’Neil arrested Benjamin Robicheau, 21, of Machias, for alleged furnishing alcohol to a minor. William Beal, 19, of Marshfield, Jordan Campbell, 19, of Machiasport, and Dakota Colbeth, 20, of Machias were all issued summonses for alleged illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. Taylor Hutto, 19, of Ellsworth was issued a summons for alleged transportation of alcohol by a minor.
Officer O’Neil struck again on February 9 when, following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, she summoned a 17-year-old from Ellsworth for alleged operating under the influence and alleged illegal transportation of alcohol by a minor. He was released to his father. A 15-year-old passenger in the vehicle, from Bar Harbor, was summoned for alleged possession of alcohol by a minor. She was released to her mother.

The following incidents occurred in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert last week according to the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department police logs, which is publicly released information.
Tuesday, February 4, 2025
Officer Troy Stanwood responded to a vehicle that had gone off the road on Sound Drive in Mount Desert. There was no damage to the vehicle.
Jacqueline Bolt, 57, of Bar Harbor, was driving a 2005 Subaru east on Norway Drive in Bar Harbor when the vehicle hit a patch of black ice and went off the roadway to the right. The vehicle struck a tree, spun around, and came to rest back on the roadway. An occupant of Bolt’s vehicle suffered reported minor injuries and was transported to MDI Hospital. The vehicle sustained disabling damage to the front passenger corner and was towed from the scene.
Officer Stanwood received some information in Bar Harbor.
The Bar Harbor Police Department dispatcher spoke with someone having “some personal issues.”
Sgt. Hardy located and stopped a vehicle in Bar Harbor on behalf of the Ellsworth Police Department and served some paperwork on behalf of EPD.
The Bar Harbor Police Department received a motor vehicle complaint but all officers were out of position and the complaint was forwarded to a neighboring agency.
Officer Nathan Formby took a complaint from someone in Bar Harbor that had occurred in Ellsworth and the complainant was referred to the Ellsworth Police Department.
Officer O’Neil assisted the Bar Harbor Highway Department with getting vehicles moved from the roadways for snow removal.
Officer O’Neil investigated a complaint of suspicious activity in Mount Desert but determined that nothing suspicious had occurred.

Rosalie Kell, 71, of Bar Harbor, was driving a 2024 Hyundai Tucson south on Norway Drive in Bar Harbor when she reportedly fell asleep and struck a telephone pole. There was no reported injury and the vehicle suffered front end damage and was towed from the scene.
Thursday, February 6, 2025
Officer Liam Harrington caught a loose dog in Bar Harbor that was returned to its owner.
Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Officer Caleb Mora summoned Davor Sklizovic, 70, of Bar Harbor, for alleged failure to obtain a driver’s license, alleged failure to register a motor vehicle, and alleged evasion of excise tax and registration fees.
Sgt. Chris Dickens had a vehicle moved for snow removal in Mount Desert.
Officer Justin Burnett arrested Kathleen Welton, no age given, of Bar Harbor, in Bar Harbor, on an active arrest warrant. Welton was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Someone struck a deer with their vehicle on Route 102 in Bar Harbor. There was no damage to the vehicle and the deer was removed by DOT.
Officer Ted Cake delivered some sand to a senior citizen in Mount Desert as part of the “Sand for Seniors” program.
Officer Stanwood responded to an illegally parked car on Indian Point Road in Bar Harbor, but the car was gone when he arrived.
Officer Stanwood received a motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor regarding a vehicle coming from Southwest Harbor, but no officers were in a position to intercept the vehicle.
Sgt. Dickens spoke with two people in Bar Harbor regarding a harassment issue.
Officer Burnett received a motor vehicle complaint in Mount Desert. No further information or disposition was given.

Officer Amie Torrey received a request to check on someone at a residence in Mount Desert to see if they were supposed to be there. Officer Torrey determined that the person was supposed to be at the residence.
Officer Torrey performed a well-being check on a Good Morning program member in Mount Desert and found them to be all set.
Officer Formby investigated a reported suicide attempt in Bar Harbor and found the person to not be suicidal nor had they attempted suicide.

Ernest Laspisa, 26, of Southwest Harbor and Marksesan, Wisconsin, was driving a 2002 Honda CRV west on Eagle Lake Road in Bar Harbor when he lost control of the vehicle due to inclement weather and slid off the road down an embankment into the wood line. There was no reported injury. The vehicle suffered front end damage and was towed from the scene. Laspisa was arrested for alleged operating under the influence and transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Officer Stanwood responded to a report of someone walking in a snowstorm along Route 3 in Bar Harbor but could not locate anyone walking.
Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Kelly Kane, 47, of Bar Harbor, was arrested for alleged operating under the influence. Kane was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Monday, February 10, 2025
Sgt. Hardy received some information in Bar Harbor and directed the caller to the appropriate agency.
Officer Liam Harrington took a report of the theft of a check in Bar Harbor. The theft was discovered before the check was cashed and there was no monetary loss.
Sgt. Hardy performed a requested well-being check on someone hitchhiking in Bar Harbor in the cold weather and gave the person a ride to their residence.
SOUTHWEST HARBOR AND TREMONT
The following incidents occurred in Southwest Harbor or Tremont last week according to the Southwest Harbor Police Department police log, which is publicly released information.
Monday, February 3, 2025
Chief John Hall responded to the lower town dock in Southwest Harbor to address some parking issues related to snow removal and requested that one vehicle be moved.
Chief Hall performed a well-being check on a Southwest Harbor resident on behalf of the Bar Harbor Police Department and found the person to be all set.
Tuesday, February 4, 2025
Sgt. Ryan Blakeney took a report of harassment from someone in Tremont and asked to see the messages in order to identify the sender and determine if the messages constituted harassment. According to the press release, Sgt. Blakeney is still awaiting the requested information.
Sgt. Blakeney is investigating a complaint regarding an individual allegedly causing a disturbance at the end of the school day in the parking lot of the Tremont school.
Sgt. Blakney attempted to locate a vehicle in Southwest Harbor that was reported to be “all over the road.” Sgt. Blakeney could not locate the vehicle on the road or at the registered owner’s address.
Sgt. Blakeney responded to a Tremont residence for a report of a former tenant being on the property and the property owner wanting the person removed from the property. Sgt. Blakeney located Samantha Willard, 37, of Southwest Harbor at the residence and after repeatedly being warned for criminal trespass and being asked to leave, Willard was arrested, alleged charges not specifically given, and transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Sgt. Blakeney is investigating a reported property dispute from a Southwest Harbor resident regarding who owns the property and who currently holds the property.

Officer James Kamorski visited the Pemetic School in Southwest Harbor, read a book to some students, and then answered questions that they had.
Friday, February 7, 2025
Someone called the Southwest Harbor Police Department to report that they had just assisted someone else who had slipped and fallen in Southwest Harbor and appeared to be injured. Sgt. Blakeney responded to check on the person and the person said that they were fine did not require any medical attention.
Sgt. Blakeney did a school visit at the Pemetic School in Southwest Harbor.

Officer Kamorski handled a civil complaint in Southwest Harbor and will be performing a keep the peace for the involved parties as soon as a date is set.
Officer Kamorski responded to a motor vehicle complaint in Southwest Harbor but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
A Southwest Harbor resident informed Officer Kamorksi of an ongoing family dispute issue so that the police department could be aware of the situation.
Officer Kamorski arrested Zachary Collins, 25, of Bass Harbor, for alleged operating under the influence in Tremont.

Sgt. Blakeney took a report of a missing person in Southwest Harbor but the complainant called back shortly after the initial call to say that the missing person had returned home.
Brady Thomas, 28, of Southwest Harbor, was driving a 1997 Ford F-250 on the Marshall Brook Road in Southwest Harbor and Miles Eugley, 21, of Waltham was driving a 2019 Ford F-250 on the Marshall Brook Road. No crash description was given but the two vehicles made contact with one another causing damage to the rear of both vehicles but no injuries.

Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Two Fires at Same Residence in Norway
NORWAY—On Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 6:45 a.m., the Fire Marshals Office was requested to respond to a residential fire at 80 Beal Street in Norway. This is the second time in a week that the FMO has been called to this address for a fire.
A team of investigators responded and are actively working both fires. There were no reported injuries with either fire. The property is a total loss after the fire this morning.
The Fire Marshals Office is asking anyone with information about the fire to call 1-888-870-6162.
Maine State Police Investigating Fatal Crash on I-95 in Palmyra
PALMYRA—On Saturday, February 8, 2025, at approximately 7:15 a.m., troopers responded to a single vehicle, single occupant crash on Interstate 95 northbound at mile marker 155 in Palmyra.
Initial investigation indicates that 20-year-old Tatiana Medeiros, of East Providence, Rhode Island, was in the left-hand lane when her 2008 Toyota Matrix left the roadway and crashed into the median. Medeiros was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Fire Marshal’s Office Responds to Fire that Destroyed Home in Monmouth

MONMOUTH—On Friday, February 7, 2025, at approximately 11:15 a.m. the Monmouth Fire Department responded to a house fire at 1 Bonin Road in Monmouth. The homeowners and their children were able to get out of the house with the assistance of neighbors. An adult male suffered minor burns. No other injuries were reported.
The house is a total loss. Investigators with the Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene. Their investigation determined that the fire started on the porch and the cause of the fire was accidental improper disposal of ashes.
Leeds, Winthrop, Litchfield, West Gardiner, Sabattus, Green and Wales Fire Departments assisted on scene.
Maine State Police Investigating Murder in Norridgewock
NORRIDGEWOCK—On Friday, February 7, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call reporting an incident at a home on Walnut Drive in Norridgewock. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a deceased man and another man with severe head injuries inside the residence. Area police departments were notified to be on the alert for 38-year-old Kendall Purnell, of Norridgewock, who was seen driving the homeowner’s vehicle. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central responded and began investigating.
Around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, officers with the Waterville Police Department observed the vehicle at Irving’s Gas Station on Kennedy Memorial Drive in Waterville. Officers identified Kendall Purnell as the driver. Purnell was brought to the Waterville Police Department and questioned by detectives. Purnell was later arrested for murder and taken to the Somerset County Jail.
The deceased man was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be conducted. The injured man was transported to Reddington Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan and later transported via LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor where he is currently listed in critical condition.
