Two sailors were rescued by nearby lobster boats in Tremont, Thursday afternoon, with local firefighters, town officials, and the Coast Guard joining the effort.

TREMONT—There was another boat rescue in Tremont waters this week.
A small sailboat overturned near the Algerian Shore at Heath Point, Thursday, August 27.
According to scanner traffic, lobster fishers were helping two individuals that were in the water, at approximately 3:30 p.m. They were well past the boat landing and down the beach.
Last Saturday, August 22, Danny Closson’s boat, Never Enough, sank off Gott’s Island while he was on it. In just moments he lost his boat, its new motor, his fishing traps, and 500 pounds of lobster he’d hauled that day.
Much like the sailors, Closson was rescued by people on lobster boats that were close enough by to save him.
The Never Enough’s sinking comes almost two months after another accident in Bass Harbor. At 10:30 p.m., July 3, a commercial lobster boat that was moored in the harbor caught fire.
That July fire was extinguished by Tremont Volunteer Fire Department, local fisherman, and crews from the U.S. Coast Guard Station Southwest Harbor and the Maine Marine Patrol.
The sailboat that capsized, Thursday, was close to the Algerian Shore by the Cape Road.
“The occupants were quickly assisted by two nearby lobster boats. One of the lobster boats brought an individual safely to the Seal Cove dock, while the other sailor remained in the water with the overturned sailboat and helped guide it toward the beach where the responders had gathered,” according to the Tremont Volunteer Fire Department’s social media post.
Fortunately, the people on the sailboat wore personal floatation devices (PFDs).
According to the fire department, the boaters “welcomed the assistance of others to get themselves out of the situation.”
Other than the people in the lobster boat, other responders included four Tremont Fire Department firefighters, Harbormaster Tyler Damon, and Tremont Selectman Eric Eaton.
According to the department, they “worked together to carry the small boat up the rocky beach, where it was loaded onto its trailer.”
The U.S. Coast Guard also responded via water from its Southwest Harbor station to help with the recovery on the water.
There were no injuries.
“This was another great example of the importance of having people on the water who are willing to lend a hand. The quick actions of the nearby lobster boat crews, along with the coordinated response of local firefighters, town officials, and the U.S. Coast Guard, helped bring the situation to a safe conclusion,” the fire department explained. “Thank you to everyone who stepped up to help on a busy summer afternoon.”
Just the night before, the department had conducted a water rescue (and fire suppression) training.
Fire department meetings and trainings are the first and last Wednesday of each month.
