Join Master Carver Ed Hawkes of Bar Harbor to learn the art of creating lifelike leaves to accompany your artwork. Ed uses them to accompany his wooden bird carvings, but they’re not made out of wood, and the leaves can be used to enhance any art or craft project. This is the first in an occasional series of workshops to teach how to build habitat. This is a one-day class on Saturday, April 25. All materials will be supplied. MAY 2 — CAMP BEECH CLIFF CLEAN-UP

Camp Beech Cliff invites community members to roll up their sleeves and help prepare camp for the season ahead at its annual Volunteer Spring-Clean Up Day on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Volunteers will assist with a variety of projects, including mulching garden beds, setting up program areas, and sweeping walkways—there’s something for all ages and abilities. Camp staff and board members will be working alongside volunteers from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., rain or shine.

Families are encouraged to participate; children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Lunch will be provided for all volunteers. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required at http://www.campbeechcliff.org to ensure an accurate lunch count.

MAY 2 — RED SHORE

“Red Shore”, an independent film by Maine filmmaker, CJ Howey, will be featured at Reel Pizza in Bar Harbor May 2 at 2 p.m. The director will speak and answer questions following the film.

CJ was a student of local artist Rick Osann’s at Bonny Eagle HS. A talented actor and filmmaker, he has been making short videos and commercials as long as I’ve known him. This is his first full length feature film!

BAR HARBOR — The third annual Cultural Fusion Fest will take place Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the YWCA MDI, 36 Mount Desert St. This free, family-friendly event is open to all and invites both seasonal workers and year-round residents to come together in celebration of culture, community, and connection.

THE FINBACK ALE HOUSE!

The Finback usually has local musicians, open mic nights and karaoke all summer long. Its Instagram is here. A typical line-up looks like the one below. Usually, the Finback updates its list on Tuesdays.

FOGTOWN (In Ellsworth, but by request)

Weekly events schedule at the Ellsworth Taproom including Open Mic Night on Wednesdays at 6 PM, Trivia Night on Thursdays at 6:30 PM, and Live Music every Friday at 6 PM.

There is an open mic night Wednesday evenings, trivia nights on Thursday evenings and live music in the beer garden on Friday evenings.

The Ellsworth farmers market is also now held in the parking lot of Fogtown brewery Saturday mornings beginning at around nine.

Are you a parent or guardian of an adult with developmental delays, ID/D or Autism? Would you like support?

We are a parent run support group. Join a community of parents and guardians helping each other with problem solving, understanding adult services, advocacy and policy awareness. Our group includes parents and guardians of high school age and older. Organized by Local Solutions. Meetings are at the rectory building of St. Savior’s Church in Bar Harbor at 4:30 every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.
