MARCH 31 — LENTEN PROGRAM — DANIEL PYLE

BAR HARBOR—St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church in Bar Harbor is offering a series of brief musical programs during the season of Lent. These programs will take place on the five Tuesdays in March, each beginning at noon. They will consist of a half-hour of music performed by various local organists, playing selections that relate to Lent, followed by a short meditation by Rev. Cricket Cooper, the priest-in-charge at Saviour’s.

Julia Morris-Myers, who was formerly organist and music-director at St. Saviour’s, will play on March 24. Daniel Pyle, currently organist at St. Saviour’s, will play on March 17 and 31.

The Ellsworth Amateur Wireless Association will hold its annual ham radio symposium on Saturday, April 18, from noon to 4 pm, at the Meadow View Phase 4 Community Room, 25 Tweedie Lane, in Ellsworth. This year’s theme is “Focused Communications: Choosing the Best Tools.” There will be five presentations, information tables, and time for chatting and community building.

The presentations are (1) Get the Most From HamAlert, (2) Remote Amateur Radio for Everyone, (3) Can You Hear Me Now? Deploying Maine’s Decentralized, Encrypted Meshtasitc Backbone, (4) 3D Printing for Ham Radio Projects, and (5) APRS: More Than Tracking. Information tables will focus on several topics, including Resources for Women in Ham Radio and the North American QRP CW Club (using Morse Code).

Amateur radio, also called ham radio, is a popular service and hobby that uses various radio frequencies for non-commercial communication, experimentation, and public service.
