BAR HARBOR—On the second and last Wednesdays of the month, Bar Harbor Police Department’s Mental Health Liaison Melissa Gleason, LSW, heads to the Jesup Memorial Library to offer conversation, support, and access to resources.

The purpose of these drop-in hours is to offer outreach to individuals in a comfortable atmosphere, connect people to services, raise awareness, and work to identify gaps in meeting peoples’ needs.

Gleason’s next drop-in hours will be Wednesday, February 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Gleason started working for the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Departments in September 2023. She is a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. Her degree focus was in abnormal psychology with a minor in sociology.

The following incidents occurred in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert last week according to the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department police logs, which is publicly released information.


Monday, February 16, 2026

Officer Amie Torrey assisted the Ellsworth Police Department in Bar Harbor.

Officer Caleb Mora received a motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor, but the vehicle was unoccupied when he located it.

Officer Virginia Helton spoke with someone on the phone in Bar Harbor in regard to a mental health issue.


Tuesday, February 17, 2026

Officer Troy Stanwood responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor and learned that the vehicle and driver were just parked waiting on someone.

Sgt. Doug Brundrett assisted the Maine Department of Transportation with traffic control on Route 102 in Bar Harbor while the DOT crew filled potholes.

Officer Stanwood assisted an out-of-state agency in Bar Harbor with locating information for next of kin for a death notification.

Following continued complaints of a loose dog in Bar Harbor, Officer Mora summoned Roland Sosa, 63, of Bar Harbor, for dog roaming at large and animal trespass.

Officer Nathan Formby assisted someone in Bar Harbor with retrieving misplaced property.


Wednesday, February 18, 2026

At the complainant’s request, Officer Kaleb Payson documented a report of theft in Mount Desert.

Following a complaint of a dog at large in Bar Harbor, Officer Payson spoke with the person responsible for the dog and warned them for allowing the dog to roam at large.

Sgt. Brundrett is investigating a report of fraud in Bar Harbor.

Officer Liam Harrington responded to a medical call in Bar Harbor with the Bar Harbor Fire Department.

Sgt. Chris Dickens met with someone in Bar Harbor who was the target in an unsuccessful fraud attempt where no money was lost and reinforced preventative strategies with the person.

Officer Lukas Keene assisted someone in Bar Harbor who was experiencing a mental health crisis.


Thursday, February 19, 2026

Officer Ted Cake patrolled the area that was the subject of a suspicious activity complaint in Mount Desert but could not locate anything suspicious.

Officers responded to a medical call in Bar Harbor with the Bar Harbor Fire Department. The subject of the medical call was transported to the hospital.

Officer T. Cake performed a requested well-being check on someone in Mount Desert but could not locate the person. Another law enforcement agency in southern Maine later located the person and the requesting party was made aware.

Officer Payson searched for a reported loose dog in Bar Harbor but could not locate it.

After receiving a report of a vehicle failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk in Bar Harbor, Officer Harrington searched for the vehicle but was unable to locate it.

Officer Payson responded to a report of suspicious activity in Bar Harbor but was unable to locate anything suspicious.

Officer Payson documented an animal problem complaint in Bar Harbor.


Friday, February 20, 2026

Officer Torrey attempted to make contact with a man in Bar Harbor for the Ellsworth Police Department.

Sgt. Dickens and Officer Helton assisted the Bar Harbor Fire Department with a medical call in Bar Harbor.

A vehicle that had broken down in Bar Harbor was towed because it was blocking the public way.

Officer Helton gave someone a ride to their residence in Bar Harbor.

Officer Stanwood took a report of someone blowing snow into the roadway in Bar Harbor.

Officers conducted a well-being check on an elderly woman in Bar Harbor and found that she had died of natural causes.


Sunday, February 22, 2026

Sgt. Dickens attempted to locate a vehicle in Bar Harbor that had been involved in an incident in Trenton. The vehicle was located by the Southwest Harbor Police Department.

Tuesday, February 17, 2026

Officer Bradley Russell performed a requested well-being check on someone in Southwest Harbor and found them to be okay.

Officer Russell was requested to check on someone who was “acting out of sorts” at a Southwest Harbor business but could not locate the person. The information was passed along to another agency.

After receiving a motor vehicle complaint in Southwest Harbor, Officer Russell responded and located the vehicle, which was already parked. Officer Russell did speak with the vehicle owner.

Officer Russell assisted someone in Southwest Harbor with retrieving some “misplaced property.”

After receiving a call from someone in Southwest Harbor who needed assistance in a personal matter, Officer Russell spoke with the person and was able to connect them with the proper agency.


Wednesday, February 18, 2026

Sgt. Rick Graham receiving notification that Maine Fire Protection would be working on the fire alarms at the Pemetic School in Southwest Harbor.

Sgt. Graham performed a well-being check on someone in Southwest Harbor and the person agreed to go to the hospital with a family member.

A Tremont resident reported suspected bank fraud to Sgt. Graham. The reporting person had become suspicious while on the phone and terminated the call and lost no money.

A Tremont resident reported a possible protection order violation to Sgt. Graham. After consulting with the Hancock County District Attorney’s Office, Sgt. Graham issued the suspect a warning.

Sgt. Graham responded with the ambulance service to a medical call in Southwest Harbor.


Thursday, February 19, 2026

Officer Kristen Roulet received a call regarding trespassing in Tremont and was provided with pictures of the event.

After receiving an alarm at the First National Bank on Seal Cove Road in Southwest Harbor, Officer Roulet responded but the alarm was cancelled while she was on her way.


Friday, February 20, 2026

Following a possible protection order violation complaint in Tremont, Officer Russell arrested Brandon Hodgdon, 52, of Tremont, for violation of a protection order. Hodgdon was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

After receiving a report of a parking issue in Southwest Harbor, Officer Russell responded, located the owner of the car, and resolved the issue.


Saturday, February 21, 2026

Officer Russell responded to a noise complaint in Southwest Harbor and spoke with the homeowner making the noise and rectified the situation.

Responding to a report of suspicious people near a Tremont residence, Sgt. Graham was not able to locate anyone in the area.

Sgt. Graham delivered a message to a Southwest Harbor resident on behalf of the Bar Harbor Police Department.

After receiving a request for assistance by the Bar Harbor Police Department and the Maine State Police in regard to items possibly being stolen from a Southwest Harbor resident, Officer Roulet’s assistance was not needed.

Officer Roulet responded to a report of a vehicle blocking the “main lanes” in the area of Golf of Maine in Southwest Harbor but the vehicle was gone when she arrived.


Due to time constraints, we do not write about car/deer crashes or minor vehicle crashes such as parking lot or parked vehicle/moving vehicle collisions. We do realize that many readers are interested in car/deer collisions, so we will be listing them by town and roadway here.

These are the Maine State Police press releases from the last few days. The Bar Harbor Story will include these each week though most (and sometimes all) do not occur on Mount Desert Island.


Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating House Fire in Augusta

AUGUSTA—On Thursday, February 19, 2026, at approximately 2:03 p.m., the Augusta Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 347 Riverside Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters located a fire in the basement of a single-family home and discovered that a male occupant was outside the home that had sustained severe burns during the incident. The male was transported to Maine General Hospital in Augusta and was subsequently transported by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. Fire Investigators have determined the origin of the fire was in the basement, and the cause is ignitable liquids being accidentally ignited near the chimney cleanout door. Fire Marshal Investigators were assisted by Augusta Police and Fire Department. The investigation is ongoing.

The victim, identified as 66-year-old Michael Keith, died the following day.


Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Fire in Lisbon

LISBON—On Thursday, February 19, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a neighbor called 911 to report that a residence next door at 104 Ferry Road in Lisbon was filled with smoke, with flames visible on the left front side of the residence. The Lisbon Fire Department responded shortly thereafter and was able to quickly extinguish the fire.

Due to extensive damage from heat and smoke, the home is considered a total loss. At the request of the Lisbon Fire Department, the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to assist with the investigation. Investigators determined that the fire originated on a mattress in a bedroom. The cause is believed to be a malfunction of an electric blanket. The investigation remains ongoing at this time. No one was home at the time of the fire.


Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Early Morning Fire in Bridgton

BRIDGTON—The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a structure fire at 6 Cross Street in Bridgton. The Bridgton Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at approximately 3:50 a.m., on Friday, February 20, 2026. The building was believed to be abandoned, and fire officials were initially unable to confirm whether anyone was inside at the time of the fire.

As a result, investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office were requested to respond. Investigators have since confirmed that no one was inside the structure at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the State Fire Marshal’s Office at 207-624-7076.


Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Two Fires in Waldoboro

WALDOBORO—On Friday, February 20, 2026, at approximately 2:38 a.m., the Waldoboro Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire involving a single-story home located at 801 North Nobleboro Road in Waldoboro with fire extending through the front windows and roof.

The two occupants of the home were able to escape the home with one male resident sustaining burns to his shoulder and neck. He was transported to Miles Hospital in Damariscotta.

The roof had collapsed in the center of the home and the front wall had burned away. One firefighter had fallen through the floor but did not sustain any injuries. The residents were using propane space heaters inside to help with warming.

Two cats and a dog perished in the fire and one dog was able to be rescued by the owner. State Fire Marshal Investigators have classified the fire as undetermined due to competing accidental causes.

WALDOBORO—At approximately 7:03 a.m., the Waldoboro Fire Department received another call for a reported structure fire at 2231 Friendship Road in Waldoboro. When firefighters arrived, they found a barn attached to a home heavily involved in fire. The two occupants of the home had already escaped and were unhurt.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the barn with minimal damage to the home. State Fire Marshal Investigators responded to the scene and determined the cause of the fire is electrical in nature and is classified as accidental.

The two fires are unrelated.
