BAR HARBOR—A local man with deep roots on Mount Desert Island is joining the ownership team at Coston and McIsaac.
“Today, we are pleased to share another important milestone. As of January 1, Nick Shaw has joined Paul (Coston), Gary (Lloyd), and Andrew (Shea) as a member of the firm’s ownership team. This transition reflects our long-standing commitment to Mount Desert Island and ensures we can continue delivering the thoughtful, high-quality service our clients expect for generations to come,” the firm announced.
Shaw graduated from MDI High School and the University of New Hampshire (2016) where he earned high honors and dean’s list status. He’s coached baseball, basketball, and participated in the Friends of Acadia roadside cleanup for years.
Back in 2012, Shaw received the Mount Desert Island YMCA’s youth service award. As a high school senior, he received the award for his volunteerism as a student: helping to coach kids in basketball, baseball, and soccer, helping with the MDI Marathon and local Special Olympic events.
On the Bar Harbor baseball diamonds, he was known for his RBI triples and doubles. On the soccer field, he started one MDI High School season opening shut-out in 2011 by scoring the first four of the team’s six goals. In a 2012 basketball game against the Ellsworth Eagles, MDI head coach Jason Norwood said Shaw made two of the best defensive plays he’d ever seen. He was a stand-out athlete and scholar.
His mother, Amy Shaw, has served the island as a nurse at MDI Hospital. Norman Shaw Jr., Nick’s father spent more than 30 years at Hinckley Yachts and has just retired. His father, Nick’s grandfather, Norman Shaw Sr., spent many years serving the island community and was both secretary and treasurer of Bar Harbor Savings and Loan.
“Nick has been a tremendous addition to our team and I couldn’t be happier to have him join our ownership group,” said Coston.
In 1987 Paul Coston and MJ McIsaac started the CPA firm. They expanded in 1999, adding an investment firm.
According to a press release, “Over the past 26 years, the firm has experienced several pivotal moments—the first being our merger with Andrew Shea, CFP®, which positioned us for meaningful growth while remaining rooted in our local values.”
Shea said, “I have known Nick nearly his entire life and he’s always been exceptional. I am nowhere near ready to retire, but having Nick in place gives our clients and everyone at the firm a lot of comfort.”
The company’s leaders praised Shaw’s leadership, vision, experience “and deep connection to this community.”
This, they said coincides with the firm’s long-term goal of remaining an independent advisory firm, which would be “owned, led, and operated by professionals who live here, understand the people we serve, and are committed to doing things the right way.”
Nick Shaw’s wife Allie is an estate planning attorney with Verrill Dana in Bangor.
He serves on the Development and Fundraising Committee for the Eastern Area Agency on Aging and sits on the board of Acadia Youth Sports. Allie Shaw serves on the board of the Campaign for Justice, supporting expanded access to civil legal aid throughout the state of Maine.
