BAR HARBOR—Acadia Veterinary Hospital is sponsoring a costume contest for your pet.

Yes, your pet.

Halloween hijinks is going animal this year with a costume contest for local pups, cats, turtles and well, whatever pet you can wrangle into a costume.

“We just want to have some holiday fun sharing the love of our pets,” said Lindsay Chaloux, Acadia Veterinary Hospital veterinary technician.

Only one photo per family can be submitted by email or text to the animal clinic and the deadline is 3 p.m. on October 31.

You can send your picture via text to 207-288-5733 or you can email it to acadiavh@yourvetdoc.com

Three creatively decorated pumpkins displayed on a wooden surface, featuring unique designs and numbers. The first pumpkin has a cartoonish face, the second is a hollowed-out pumpkin with moss and a small wooden bridge, and the third is brightly painted with a smiling face.
Three creatively decorated pumpkins on a wooden counter, with one painted blue and orange, one with a carved design, and a classic orange pumpkin in the background.

There’s also a wickedly cool pumpkin contest going on where the staff of Acadia Veterinary Hospital have stepped away from the fur and fangs and put their creative juices to work on pumpkins.

Two contests at once might seem daunting, but it’s really part of spreading the cheer for the hospital.

“We wanted people to be able to enter the costume contest from the comfort of their own home, but also vote on the pumpkins in the office when they are already here for their appointment, picking up meds or even waiting on lab results,” Chaloux said.

Visitors to the clinic at 21 Federal Street in Bar Harbor can write on a sticky note and drop it into the clinic’s PAWSITIVE vibes bucket, which is orange, of course, and has some cute little paws prancing all around it.

The prize winners will be announced on Facebook. This weekend we’ll update here what the prizes are. They are still being refined.
