TRENTON—An early morning fire, September 5, destroyed a towable RV trailer on the Horse Farm Road in Trenton and resulted in a dog’s death.
The town’s volunteer fire department arrived at approximately 3:17 a.m., and according to Fire Chief Steve Heckman “crews observed a fully involved structure with fire extending into the woods and affecting other exposures.”
The camper trailer was over 30 feet long and was being used by one person, who was able to escape the fire.
“Unfortunately, the occupant’s dog perished in the fire,” Chief Heckman said.
The camper trailer is a total loss and was not insured.
“Although it was reported that the camper had smoke alarms installed, it is unknown if they were working as the occupant did not report being alerted to the fire,” Heckman wrote in a press release about the incident.
A vehicle and a manufactured home that are also on the property have heat and “melt” damage because they were closed to the camper.
The fire department thanked crews from Ellsworth, Lamoine, and Hancock, and also Northern Light Ambulance for assisting and providing resources. The state fire marshal will follow-up on the event, the press release states.
Chief Heckman also advises people to make sure that fire and carbon monoxide detectors are working in their homes, that batteries are replaced, and the devices are routinely tested.
