SOUTHWEST HARBOR—According to the weekly press release of the Southwest Harbor Police Department and Chief John Hall, on July 10 at approximately 4:54 p.m., Officers Kristen Roulet and James Kamorski of the Southwest Harbor Police Department responded to a report of gunshots at a Southwest Harbor residence.
After an investigation, during which “witnesses stated that he was randomly firing his gun outside,” Robert Tracy, 64, of Southwest Harbor, was arrested and charged with two counts of violation of conditions of release, possession of a firearm when prohibited, and discharge of a firearm or archery equipment near dwelling or building.
According to Chief Hall, one of the charges for violation of conditions of release was due to Tracy allegedly being intoxicated. Tracy was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Officer Shelby O’Neil responded to a motor vehicle complaint in Mount Desert, located the suspect vehicle, and warned the driver for speed and erratic operation.
Officer Justin Burnett performed two VIN verifications for a Bar Harbor business.
Sgt. Doug Brundrett and Mental Health Liaison Melissa Tozier checked on the welfare of a man in Bar Harbor who was reported to be unstable. Sgt. Brundrett and MHL Tozier determined that the man was fine and he moved along at the request of Sgt. Brundrett.
Sgt. Brundrett and MHL Tozier responded to a West Street, Bar Harbor, business to check on a woman who was reported to have been in the bathroom for over an hour. After speaking briefly with the woman, she was moved along and issued a trespass warning for the business.
Officer Burnett checked on a dog in a car on West Street in Bar Harbor and determined that the dog was fine.
A Bar Harbor business reported an injured bird on the sidewalk. Officer Burnett checked on the bird and determined that it was in good health but too young to fly. The bird was released.
Officer Burnett responded to a loose dog complaint in Bar Harbor but could not locate the dog.
After receiving a complaint of speeders on Ripples Road in Mount Desert, Sgt. Chris Dickens will be adding the area to the department’s directed patrol list.
After receiving a vehicle operation complaint from the state police regarding a vehicle in Trenton that was heading towards the island, Officer Burnett waited at the head of the island but the vehicle never went by him.
Sgt. Dickens took a dog bite report regarding a dog bite that occurred at a Bar Harbor business. The involved person sustained a minor injury.
Officer Nathan Formby responded to a disorderly situation at a Bar Harbor business and issued someone a trespass warning for the business.

Sgt. Dickens gave two people a ride from Bar Harbor back to their hotel in Trenton.
Officer Lukas Keene responded to a report of a group of teenagers causing a disturbance at Seal Harbor Beach, quieted them down, and moved them along for the evening.
Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Officer Formby arrested Heather Turner, 40, of St. Cloud, FL, for alleged operating under the influence. Turner was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Officer Judson Cake summoned Newton Freire, 34, of Mount Desert, for alleged driving to endanger.
Officer Caleb Mora responded to a report of someone sleeping on the sidewalk in Bar Harbor but the person was gone when Officer Mora arrived.
Officer Mora took a report of a stolen bicycle in Bar Harbor. The bike was recovered the following day and the victim did not want to pursue charges.
Officer O’Neil provided traffic control for an outside detail in Mount Desert.
Sgt. Brundrett responded to a report of an erratic driver on Peabody Drive in Mount Desert but could not locate the suspect vehicle.
After the Bar Harbor Police Department received a report of a cement truck that was heading off island and being operated in a reckless or negligent manner, the vehicle was stopped, and the driver warned, by an off-island agency.
Brian Berry, 45, of East Machias, was driving a 1995 dump truck and was attempting to make a right-hand turn from a left-turn-only lane at the intersection of Mount Desert Street and Main Street in Bar Harbor. Cote Mitchell, 32, of Bar Harbor, was driving a 2019 Toyota and was in the right hand turn lane. Allegedly, Berry’s dump truck struck Mitchell’s Toyota while turning. There was no reported injury and both vehicle’s sustained damage but were still operable.
Sgt. Dickens performed a well-being check in Somesville and found the person to be fine.
After receiving reports of speeders on the Crooked Road in Bar Harbor, the area will be added to the department’s directed patrol list.
After receiving a report that a wanted man had just left a Bar Harbor business, Officer Mora located and arrested Vincent Abbott, 51, of Otter Creek, for an outstanding arrest warrant and alleged violation of conditions of release. Abbott was transported to the Hancock County Jail.
A Bar Harbor business reported a suspicious man sleeping in an alleyway off Cottage Street. The man was leaving as Officer Liam Harrington was arriving.
Officer Troy Stanwood warned someone not to take pictures of their neighbor’s property in Northeast Harbor.
Officer Harrington gave someone in Bar Harbor a ride after they missed the final Island Explorer bus for the day.

Officer Harrington made several visitors to Bar Harbor aware of the town’s ordinance that prohibits sleeping in vehicles on public property.
Officer Kaleb Payson assisted someone in mental health crisis in Bar Harbor and was able to deescalate the situation and there was no further assistance needed for the time being.
Officer Mora performed a keep the peace for someone in Bar Harbor while they collected some personal belongings.
A Bar Harbor resident reported being the victim of fraud. They were already working with their bank to try and get reimbursed.
Officer Burnett assisted a trucking company in Bar Harbor with finding an alternate route for an oversized load.
Officer Mora responded to a motor vehicle complaint in Mount Desert, located the vehicle, and found the driver to not be impaired.
Sgt. Sundberg took a report of an interaction between two people over parking in Bar Harbor, but no crimes were committed.
Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Mathew Schwab, 49, of Sorrento was summoned by Officer Stanwood for alleged failure to obtain a Maine license after establishing residency. Schwab was also issued multiple citations for moving violations.

Officer Payson responded to a 911 call regarding a person who was experiencing a mental health crisis in Bar Harbor. Officer Payson was able to help the person deescalate and they were all set for the night.
Sgt. Sundberg assisted a motorist with a disabled vehicle in Bar Harbor and helped move it out of the roadway while the motorist waited for a tow truck.
Officer Mora provided traffic control for a vehicle that had lost the camper trailer that it was towing after it had come unhitched in Bar Harbor while the trailer was being reattached.
Officer Elias Burne warned a woman for trespassing at an apartment complex in Bar Harbor.
Officer Burne warned a man for trespassing at an apartment complex in Bar Harbor.
Officer Payson responded to a noise complaint in Mount Desert, located the people making the noise, made them aware of the complaint, and moved them along.

Officers assisted the Maine State Police while they were in Bar Harbor and the state police utilized the Bar Harbor Police Department’s booking room for someone who was involved in a traffic stop.
Officers moved five RVs along on Main Street in Bar Harbor after they were found to be violating the town’s ordinance prohibiting sleeping in vehicles on public property.
Sgt. Sundberg responded to a motor vehicle complaint regarding unsafe operation on Route 102 in Bar Harbor, located the vehicle, and observed no driving issues.
Officers attempted to locate a vehicle that was the subject of a motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor but could not locate the suspect vehicle.
Someone asked Sgt. Sundberg to document a verbal altercation that had taken place earlier in the day on Arata Drive in Bar Harbor.
Sgt. Sundberg spoke with an intoxicated man in the Village Green in Bar Harbor. The man did not want any assistance and had a plan to safely get home.
Officer Mora assisted the ambulance with a medical call in Bar Harbor.
Sgt. Sundberg spoke with someone in Bar Harbor about a potential protection order violation but found that at this point, there is “not sufficient probable cause that a violation had occurred.”
After receiving information and and doing an investigation, Officer Stanwood summoned Craig Chase, 21, of Stonington, for alleged furnishing liquor to a minor. Officer Stanwood also summoned Callie Green, 18, of Ellsworth, for alleged furnishing a place for a minor to consume liquor and summoned a 15-year-old male for alleged consumption of liquor by a minor.
Officer Payson responded to a report of disorderly people in Bar Harbor, located the group, and warned them for disorderly conduct before sending them on their way.
A registered sex offender from out of state notified the Bar Harbor Police Department that he would be staying at a Bar Harbor campground for vacation in accordance with the guidelines of his state’s sex offender registry.

Officer Zack Kline responded to a report of a group of loud young adults near the fountain in Seal Harbor. Officer Kline suspected that the group had just come from a party but could not prove that they had been drinking so he warned them for underage drinking.
Officer Mora responded to a report of a verbal dispute in Bar Harbor and determined that no criminal conduct occurred.
Officer Sundberg received information in Bar Harbor about a person who is operating a motor vehicle while their license is suspended.
Officer Harrington assisted a motorist who was having trouble getting their car started in Bar Harbor and was able to get the car started.
Someone went to the Bar Harbor Police Department and asked for assistance checking their car for a tracking device because they believed that their ex-partner may have placed one on their vehicle. Officer Kline could not find a tracker on the vehicle.
Officer Harrington took a report of a disgruntled employee from a Northeast Harbor business but there has been no criminal activity as of yet.
Officer Stanwood responded to a report of an erratic driver on Route 3 near Hadley Point Road in Bar Harbor but could not locate the vehicle.
Following a traffic stop in Bar Harbor, Sgt. Jerrod Hardy arrested Hunter McDonough, 27, of Old Town, for alleged operating under the influence. McDonough was transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Officer Harrington escorted an intoxicated person back to their residence in Bar Harbor.
Officers responded to a possible fight on Cottage Street in Bar Harbor but could not locate anyone when they arrived and no further reports were made.
Sgt. Brundrett contacted a Bar Harbor kayak company regarding leaving an unregistered kayak trailer on Hadley Point Beach overnight. The company’s owner said that they would register the trailer and not leave it overnight anymore.
Sgt. Brundrett responded to a motor vehicle complaint on Glen Mary Road in Bar Harbor, made contact with two vehicles involved in the complaint and had conversations with the drivers about their driving habits.
Sgt. Brundrett was flagged down by a motorist on Cottage Street in Bar Harbor who told him about another vehicle having parked illegally and obstructing traffic. Sgt. Brundrett made contact with the owner of the illegally parked vehicle and had them move their vehicle.
Officer Amie Torrey is investigating a report of fraud at a Mount Desert business.
Officer Harrington took a report of a dog bite that occurred in Somesville.
Officer J. Cake warned a man for disorderly conduct at a Bar Harbor hotel after the man left a truck running at the hotel.
Officer Stanwood issued a disorderly house violation notice to a resident in Bar Harbor.
Officer J. Cake assisted the Bar Harbor ambulance on a medical call.
Sgt. Dickens checked on a motorist on Route 102 in Bar Harbor and gave them a ride to their residence in Bar Harbor.
Following a traffic stop in Mount Desert, Officer Stanwood arrested David Bruemmer, 48, of Idaho, for alleged operating under the influence.
Officer Stanwood is investigating a report of a suspicious incident on Ells Pier in Bar Harbor.

Monday, July 7, 2025
Officer Bradley Russell responded to a Tremont business for a report of an unruly customer and was able to help the people involved come to a resolution.
Officer Russell took a motor vehicle complaint in Tremont but was unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
Officer Russell performed a requested well-being check on someone in Tremont and found the to be all set.
Officer Russell responded with the ambulance service in Southwest Harbor.
After receiving multiple reports of a loud horn going off repeatedly in Southwest Harbor, Officer Russell located a vehicle with a malfunctioning horn. Officer Russell contacted the person responsible and they addressed the issue.

Officer Kristen Roulet responded to a report of an out-of-control teen in Southwest Harbor. By the time Officer Roulet arrived, the teen had settled down and nothing more happened.
Officer Rick Graham warned a Southwest Harbor resident for harassment due to their alleged harassing messages via Facebook to another Southwest Harbor resident.
The Southwest Harbor Police Department received a report of a loose dog on Shore Road in Manset but no further calls were received.
Officer Graham investigated a report of something possibly being suspicious in Southwest Harbor but could not find anything to be wrong.
Officer Graham responded to a medical call in Southwest Harbor and assisted with lifting and moving the patient.
Officer Graham checked on a vehicle that was on the side of the road with its flashers on and found the occupants to be visitors who were watching a deer.

Brion Bickerton, no age given, of Cambridge, MA, was driving a 2012 Honda CRV in the area of Tinker Brook Lane and Tremont Road in Tremont, when he allegedly went off the road and struck a utility pole. There was no reported personal injury. The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage.
Sgt. Ryan Blakeney served paperwork to someone on behalf of another law enforcement agency.

After responding to a theft complaint at the Southwest Harbor Food Mart and investigating the complaint, Officer James Kamorski summoned Kataoka Taylor, 67, of California, for alleged theft by unauthorized taking or transfer. Taylor was also issued a trespass warning for the Food Mart.
A Southwest Harbor resident went into the Southwest Harbor Police Department to report an incident that had just occurred between themselves and their mother. Officer Kamorski and Sgt. Blakeney responded and were able to resolve the situation.
Officer Kamorski responded with the ambulance service to a medical call in Southwest Harbor and assisted them with gaining access to the residence.
Officer Roulet responded to a report of kids riding ATVs in Tremont but was unable to locate anyone riding ATVs.
Officer Roulet performed a requested well-being check on an animal in Southwest Harbor and found it to look fine and uninjured.

Someone brought an injured squirrel to the Southwest Harbor Police Department and Officer Roulet took it to Acadia Wildlife in Bar Harbor.
Officer Russell responded to a Southwest Harbor business for a complaint regarding property that the business owns.
Officer Roulet performed a requested well-being check on someone in Bar Harbor and found them to be fine.
Officer Roulet checked on the well-being of a dog that was in a vehicle in Southwest Harbor and found that the dog looked to be doing fine.
Officer Roulet checked on the well-being of a dog that was in a vehicle in Tremont and found the vehicle owner to be at the vehicle with the “air conditioning blowing so hard the dog’s ears were blowing in the wind.”
Officer Russell and the Southwest Harbor Fire Department helped to get a cat unstuck from a sewer grate.
Officer Roulet took a report of a stolen bicycle in Southwest Harbor and was able to locate the bike in a different area than where it was reported to have been stolen from.
After receiving a report that a juvenile had run away from the Southwest Harbor Food Mart, Officer Roulet located the juvenile at their residence.
Officer Russell responded to a residential alarm in Southwest Harbor, secured the residence, and spoke with the caretaker about the incident.

A man in a different state called the Southwest Harbor Police Department to report a possible domestic situation in Tremont between his daughter and her boyfriend. When Officer Graham arrived, it was determined to be a miscommunication.
A Southwest Harbor parent reported that their child had snuck out of the house but the parents were able to locate the child.
Officer Graham responded with the ambulance service to a medical call in Southwest Harbor.

Officer Kamorksi was going to respond to a Southwest Harbor business alarm but the alarm company called back and stated that it was a false alarm before he could respond.
Officer Kamorski responded to a domestic situation in Southwest Harbor and was able to resolve the situation by having the people involved separate for the rest of the day.
Officer Kamorski responded to a 911 call stating that someone was harassing pedestrians in Southwest Harbor but was unable to locate the person reportedly doing the harassing.
Officer Kamorksi performed a requested well-being check in Tremont and found the person to be fine but needing assistance with using the phone.
Officer Kamorski responded to and quelled a noise complaint in Southwest Harbor.
After receiving a complaint regarding someone in Southwest Harbor walking off the sidewalk and into the road, Officer Kamorksi responded but could not locate the person.

Marine Patrol Recovers Body from Kennebec River
BATH—The body of a male was recovered by the Maine Marine Patrol July 9, at 6 p.m., from the shore of Woods Island in the Kennebec River. The body will be transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for examination and confirmation of identification.
The body was spotted by good Samaritans on Crawford Island shortly before 6 p.m., who called 911 to report it. Woods Island is a short distance from Crawford Island in the Kennebec River.
With assistance from the Bath Police Department, marine patrol officers recovered the body from Woods Island and transported it to shore, where it was transferred to a local funeral home before being taken to the ME’s office.
The Maine Marine Patrol had been searching the Kennebec River near Bath for Robert Stolt, 22 of Augusta, since Sunday, July 6. Stolt was fishing Sunday when he attempted to rescue his dog, which had jumped in the river from Stolt’s 23-foot boat near Lines Island.
Stolt’s dog was recovered safely Sunday by the local animal control officer from the shore of Lines Island.
A female passenger on Stolt’s boat along with a second dog were rescued by other boaters Sunday and transported to shore where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
Runaway Horse on I-95 Rescued by Troopers

BURNHAM—In the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the Bangor Regional Communications Center received multiple calls reporting a horse wandering along I-95. The horse was first spotted in the northbound breakdown lane near mile marker 145, running with traffic. It then crossed through the median and entered the southbound lanes, where just after 3:00 am, troopers from Troop I located it running in the passing lane near mile marker 143 in Burnham.
Using a rope, troopers were able to safely secure the horse and tie it to the push bumper of a cruiser. Although frightened, the horse was not injured. The owner, who lives nearby on Snake Root Road, in Pittsfield, quickly arrived on scene. It appears the horse had wandered off during the night without the owner’s knowledge. With the assistance of Animal Control Officer Russell Craft, the horse was loaded onto a trailer and safely transported home.

Maine State Police Investigating Cross Lake Crash Involving Side-by-Side and SUV

CROSS LAKE—On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, shortly before 3:30 p.m., Troop F troopers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on Caribou Road in Cross Lake. The initial investigation determined that 60-year-old Milan Bogdanovic, of Fort Kent, was traveling south on Caribou Road in a 2018 Ford Expedition. At the same time, 87-year-old Norman Daigle, of Cross Lake Township, was also traveling south on an ATV access route along Caribou Road in his 2023 Polaris Ranger side-by-side.
Daigle’s side-by-side entered the roadway in Bogdanovic’s travel lane. Bogdanovic attempted to avoid the side-by-side but was unable to do so, and the two vehicles collided. Daigle was ejected from the side-by-side and sustained serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent. He was later transported via LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for further treatment. Daigle remains in critical condition. Bogdanovic was not injured in the crash.
Troopers were assisted on scene by the Presque Isle Police Department and the North Lakes Fire Department. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Troopers Stop Erratic Driver After Pursuit on I-95

ORONO—On Friday, July 11, 2025, at approximately 2:06 p.m., Maine State Police received reports of a Toyota pickup truck operating erratically at high speeds on Interstate 95 southbound near mile marker 190 in Orono. Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle near mile marker 182, but the driver refused to pull over and continued southbound at excessive speeds. The vehicle was travelling erratically in both lanes of traffic, posing a significant danger to other motorists.
Troopers coordinated a response that included the deployment of spike mats. The pursuit ended near exit 130 in Waterville when the driver struck spike mats and crashed into a tree off Main Street. The driver was identified as 39-year-old Nathaniel Porter, of Crystal. He was taken into custody and transported to Thayer Hospital for an evaluation.
Porter is facing multiple charges, including criminal speed, eluding a law enforcement officer, operating under the influence, and failure to submit to arrest. Main Street was briefly closed while emergency crews and law enforcement secured the scene.
Armed Threat Leads to Officer Involved Shooting in Wilton
WILTON—On Friday, July 11, 2025, at approximately 1:06 p.m., the Franklin County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call reporting 34-year-old Gabriele Wilbur, of Wilton, was threatening to shoot a male who was doing landscaping in the yard at 58 Cemetery Road in Wilton. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Wilton Police Department responded to the area and attempted to negotiate with Mr. Wilbur but he refused to follow commands.
Wilbur pointed a gun at law enforcement personnel. Due to the ongoing threat the Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team was requested and responded. After a brief standoff, Mr. Wilbur confronted officers while armed, Maine State Police Trooper Andrew Hardy and Officer Cody Henry from the Wilton Police Department discharged their weapons and shot Mr. Wilbur.
Law enforcement personnel rendered aid to Mr. Wilbur until EMS arrived and transported him to the hospital. Mr. Wilbur is currently at Maine Medical Center receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The underlying criminal investigation is being handled by the Wilton Police Department and the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit. It is expected that Mr. Wilbur will be charged with several criminal offenses.
Trooper Andrew Hardy and Officer Cody Henry are being placed on administrative leave as is standard practice when deadly force is used by law enforcement. The Office of the Attorney General will be investigating the use of deadly force by law enforcement.
Maine State Police Investigating Fatal Hit and Run Crash in Albion
ALBION—On Friday, July 11, 2025, at approximately 5:12 p.m., troopers from the Central Field Troop responded to a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash in the area of 60 Hussey Hill Road in Albion. It was reported that one adult and two minor children were struck by a vehicle, and the vehicle fled the scene. The adult victim, 33-year-old Mollie Egold, of Albion, was transported from the scene via LifeFlight to the hospital with serious injuries. She remains in stable condition.
One of the minors was also transported via LifeFlight and remains in critical condition.
The second minor was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Through the investigation, troopers were able to identify and locate the vehicle as well as the operator involved. The vehicle was a white 2016 Hyundai Veloster, and the operator was identified as 44-year-old Benjamin Lancaster, of Albion. Lancaster was taken into custody and transported to the Kennebec County Jail on the following charges:
• Operating under the influence causing death.
• Operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury (two counts).
• Leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
• Leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury (two counts).
Troopers are seeking video footage or surveillance that may cover Hussey Road or Main Street in Albion between 5:00 p.m., and 5:15 p.m., on July 11, 2025, involving a white vehicle matching the description above. Anyone with relevant footage or information is encouraged to contact Sgt. Garret Booth at (207) 624-7076. The Maine State Police were assisted by LifeFlight of Maine, Albion Fire Department, and Delta Ambulance.
Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Cause of Farmington Explosion

FARMINGTON—On Saturday, July 12, 2025, at approximately 10:21 a.m., the Farmington Fire Department responded to a report of an explosion at 153 Moore Avenue. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found that two individuals had sustained significant burn injuries. 68-year-old Mike Warren and 62-year-old Jon Bubier, both of Farmington, were inside the residence at the time of the explosion. The two were reportedly cleaning the property, located within a mobile home park and owned by Bubier.
Northstar Ambulance transported both individuals to Franklin Memorial Hospital. Due to the severity of their injuries, both were subsequently airlifted by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center for further treatment.
Preliminary information suggests a propane explosion, though the exact cause remains under investigation by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office. Farmington Fire Department, Farmington Police Department, and Maine State Police are all assisting in the ongoing investigation. Further details will be released as they become available.
Fire Marshal’s Office Investigates Vassalboro Structure Fire

VASSALBORO—On Friday, July 11, 2025, at approximately 2:50 p.m., the Vassalboro Fire Department was dispatched to 1087 Webber Pond Road for a report of a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a large farmhouse with a significant fire event on the exterior of the building. Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of the first-arriving crews, the fire was rapidly knocked down before it could extend into the interior of the home. The residence was unoccupied at the time of the incident, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was investigated by the Office of State Fire Marshal. Investigators determined the fire to be accidental in nature. The fire originated outside the structure and was caused by a failure in the electrical system or battery of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), which subsequently spread to the exterior of the nearby home.
The Vassalboro Fire Department received mutual aid assistance from the Winslow, Waterville, Augusta, Chelsea, Sidney, China, and Albion Fire Departments. Additional support was provided by the Vassalboro Police Department, Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, and Delta Ambulance.
