MOUNT DESERT ISLANDER—A woman was rescued May 9 after she injured her ankle hiking near the summit of Acadia Mountain.
She was on the Acadia Mountain Trail.
“On May 9, 2025 around 1:15 PM, park rangers responded to reports of a 31-year-old female hiker who had injured her ankle,” Acadia National Park Public Affairs Officer Acadia National Park Amanda Pollock wrote in a May 16 email to the Bar Harbor Story.
Two hikers stopped to assist the woman prior to the arrival of search and rescue personnel.
“A group of 27 rescuers from the National Park Service and MDI Search and Rescue responded to treat and evacuate the hiker. Mount Desert Fire Department transported the patient to Mount Desert Island Hospital for treatment,” Pollock said.
The rescue operation ended at approximately 6 p.m.
“This was the first rescue of the season for many of our seasonal preventative search and rescue (PSAR) rangers,” Pollock said. “We would like to commend the visitors who stopped and assisted the injured hiker as well as our rangers and partners who ensured the carryout operation took place safely and successfully.”

Acadia Mountain Trail is generally considered a moderate difficulty and the trailhead is on Route 102. It typically takes hikers 1.5 to 3 hours roundtrip to hike depending, of course, on pace, and stops, and if they do out-and-back or do a loop with Man O’ War Trail.
