AT WHAT COST?

When the Trump Administration hiring freeze was set to exacerbate staffing shortages at national parks, senators Patty Murray (D-WA), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), and our own Angus King (I-ME) wrote to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to immediately take action. Which he did, exempting NPS seasonal employees from the freeze. Missing in action—Appropriations Committee Chair Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME). Mainers across the political spectrum often cite Collins’ seniority as a reason to vote for her. Collins’ habit of ‘expressing concern’ most often stops short of taking action to prevent harm. Collins’ support for Pres. Trump and his Project 2025 agenda may roll federal pork barrels into Maine, but at what cost?
