The following incidents occurred in Bar Harbor and Mount Desert last week according to the Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Police Department police logs, which is publicly released information.


Monday, March 2, 2026

Officer Justin Burnett responded to a neighbor dispute in Northeast Harbor and separated the people involved. One person was issued a verbal cease harassment notice.

Mental Health Liaison Melissa Gleason spoke with someone in Mount Desert about interpersonal issues with a neighbor.

Officer Elias Burne received a report of a broken-down vehicle in Mount Desert, but the vehicle was gone when he arrived.

Sgt. Doug Brundrett performed a well-being check on someone in Bar Harbor and determined that they were fine.

Officer Virginia Helton removed a traffic hazard from the road in Bar Harbor.

Officer Helton responded to a domestic issue in Bar Harbor.

After receiving a report of a vehicle blocking a roadway in Bar Harbor, Sgt. Jerrod Hardy responded and found that it was indeed blocking the road. After multiple attempts to contact the owner, Sgt. Hardy called for a tow truck, but the owner showed up when the tow truck arrived and the owner moved the vehicle.

Sgt. Brundrett received a delayed motor vehicle complaint in Bar Harbor and documented it.

Officer Troy Stanwood fingerprinted someone in Bar Harbor for employment purposes.

After noticing an open door on a building in Bar Harbor, Sgt. Hardy found nothing suspicious and notified the properties caretaker.

Officer Burne served paperwork to someone in Bar Harbor.

Officer Stanwood closed down a lane of travel on a Bar Harbor road while debris was removed from the roadway.

Officer Helton assisted MDI Hospital with a patient.

Officer Helton assisted the Bar Harbor Fire Department with a medical call in Bar Harbor.


Wednesday, March 4, 2026

Officer Helton gave someone a ride home in Bar Harbor.

After receiving a motor vehicle complaint regarding a vehicle heading onto the island from Trenton, officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

Officer Ted Cake assisted with a medical call in Mount Desert.

Following a complaint of a vehicle making bad passes in Bar Harbor, Officer Liam Harrington was unable to locate the vehicle.

Someone gave Officer Kaleb Payson some information in Bar Harbor.

Officer Harrington delivered a bucket of sand to a Bar Harbor resident.

Officer Payson conducted a security check on a Bar Harbor business.

Officer Harrington is investigating a report of cyber fraud in Mount Desert.

Officer T. Cake delivered a bucket of sand to a Mount Desert resident.

Officer Harrington documented a road rage incident in Bar Harbor at the request of both people involved.

Sgt. Chris Dickens gave a ride to someone whose vehicle had broken down on Route 102 in Bar Harbor.

Sgt. Dickens and other officers responded to a report of someone in an abandoned building in Otter Creek. Upon investigation it was determined that the building was under new ownership and the people inside were working on the building.


Friday, March 6, 2026

Officer Amie Torrey assisted the Maine State Police in Bar Harbor.

After receiving a report of debris in the roadway on Eagle Lake Road in Bar Harbor, Officer Burne responded and found that the debris had been moved prior to his arrival.

Officer Stanwood checked on a Bar Harbor business.

Officer Stanwood took a report of low hanging wires on Route 102 in Mount Desert.

Officer Burne took a report of damage to a vehicle.

Officer Stanwood assisted the MDI Hospital with a disorderly male patient.

Officer Nathan Formby met with someone in Mount Desert who is unhoused and provided them with resources.


Saturday, March 7, 2026

Officer Stanwood is investigating a report of crypto fraud in Bar Harbor.

Someone walking on Eagle Lake Road in Bar Harbor was checked on by Officer Stanwood and they declined a ride.

Officer Torrey responded to a residential burglar alarm in Mount Desert. The alarm had been set off by workers.

After receiving a noise complaint in the area of Oak Hill Road in Bar Harbor, Sgt. Dickens responded.

Officer Stanwood assisted someone in Bar Harbor who had locked themselves out of their apartment.

Officer Formby located a missing person in Bar Harbor on behalf of the Ellsworth Police Department.

Monday, March 2, 2026

Sgt. Rick Graham conducted a requested well-being check on someone in Southwest Harbor and found them to be fine.

Sgt. Graham is investigating a report of something having been stolen or lost in Southwest Harbor.

After a Tremont resident reported that their vehicle was hit by an egg while driving on Bass Harbor Road in Southwest Harbor, Sgt. Graham is investigating.

Sgt. Graham assisted the ambulance service on a medical call in Tremont.


Tuesday, March 3, 2026

Officer Kristen Roulet assisted the ambulance service on a medical call in Southwest Harbor.

Officer Roulet responded to a loose dog complaint in Southwest Harbor and found that the dog had gone back home.


Wednesday, March 4, 2026

After receiving a report of a low hanging phone line blocking a tractor trailer from leaving a Southwest Harbor business, Officer Bradley Russell responded. Employees of the business used a pole to lift the wire so that the truck could exit.

Officer Russell served paperwork to someone in Southwest Harbor.

Officer Russell performed a vehicle identification number verification for someone in Southwest Harbor.

Officer Russell responded to a report of a child who had not returned home after school in Southwest Harbor. While searching for the child, Officer Russell was informed that the child had been found.

After receiving a motor vehicle complaint in Southwest Harbor, Officer Russell responded but could not locate the vehicle.


Thursday, March 5, 2026

Sgt. Graham performed a keep the peace in Southwest Harbor while a child was exchanged between caregivers.

Sgt. Graham fingerprinted someone in Southwest Harbor for employment purposes.

Sgt. Graham served paperwork to someone in Southwest Harbor.

After receiving a stray dog complaint in the area of Main Street in Southwest Harbor, Sgt. Graham caught the dog and took it back home.

Officer Roulet received a report from someone out of state that they had not been able to reach their elderly father who lives in Southwest Harbor all day. The man had been running errands.


Saturday, March 7, 2026

Chief John Hall received a complaint regarding an injured deer on the Seal Cove Road in Southwest Harbor. There have been multiple reports of this apparently injured deer, some of which have been referred to the Maine Warden Service. The deer has been surviving on its own and Chief Hall was unable to locate the deer on this day.

Chief Hall is investigating some information that was received from another agency.

After receiving a report of a car and deer crash in Southwest Harbor, Chief Hall responded and could not locate a vehicle or a deer.

Sgt. Graham assisted the ambulance service in Tremont.

Sgt. Graham assisted another law enforcement agency by checking a Southwest Harbor residence for a missing person who was eventually located in Bar Harbor.


Due to time constraints, we do not write about car/deer crashes or minor vehicle crashes such as parking lot or parked vehicle/moving vehicle collisions. We do realize that many readers are interested in car/deer collisions, so we will be listing them by town and roadway here.

STATE POLICE PRESS RELEASES

These are the Maine State Police press releases from the last few days. The Bar Harbor Story will include these each week though most (and sometimes all) do not occur on Mount Desert Island.


Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Fire in Auburn

AUBURN—The State Fire Marshal’s Office, in coordination with the Auburn Police Department, continues to investigate the death of a man found outside his tent on Washington Street North on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

On Wednesday, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta confirmed the deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Jaime Jimino, formerly of Portland, who had recently been an unhoused individual in the Auburn area. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner will continue to investigate to determine the cause and manner of Mr. Jimino’s death. Final results are expected to take several weeks.

At this time, no foul play is suspected. Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office, along with Auburn Police Detectives, remained on scene for several hours Tuesday evening processing and examining the area. Authorities have confirmed that a small fire occurred in and around Mr. Jimino’s tent. The investigation remains active. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.


Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Fire in Waterville

WATERVILLE—On Thursday, March 5, 2026, at approximately 7:05 p.m., the Waterville Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 35 Washington Street in Waterville. The fire was initially reported by a passerby. A neighbor and the passerby, believing the home was occupied, attempted to enter but were pushed back by smoke. Firefighters arrived on scene and entered the residence, where they located and removed a female occupant.

Crews immediately began life-saving measures before the victim was transported by Delta Ambulance to Maine General Medical Center Thayer Center in Waterville. She was later transported by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center in Portland. The occupant, 42-year-old Lauren Slack sustained life-threatening burn injuries.

An investigation conducted by the State Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire originated in the living room fireplace. Investigators determined the occupant had applied lighter fluid to a fire in the fireplace, creating a flash fire that caused the injuries. The fire caused moderate damage to the single-family home. Several pets died in the fire, while others survived and are being cared for by the Waterville Animal Control Officer.

The Oakland and Winslow Fire Departments and Delta Ambulance provided mutual aid at the scene. The Fairfield Fire Department provided station coverage for Waterville. The Waterville Police Department assisted with the investigation and traffic control. No injuries to firefighters were reported. The State Fire Marshal’s Office will continue to investigate.


Buxton Woman Arrested for Arson

BUXTON—A Buxton woman has been arrested in connection with a February vehicle fire that investigators determined was intentionally set. 43-year-old Adriane Williams, of Buxton, was arrested on an arrest warrant for arson by the State Fire Marshal’s Office on Friday, March 6, 2026.

On February 26, 2026, at approximately 6:14 p.m., the Buxton Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle fire at a residence on Joyce Street in Buxton. Officers from the Buxton Police Department also responded to the scene. Upon arrival, first responders observed a red 2011 Subaru Impreza fully involved in flames in the driveway of the residence. Clothing located outside the vehicle on the driver’s side was also burning.

Following a fire investigation, investigators determined the fire had been intentionally set. Investigators allege Williams started the fire following an argument with her boyfriend. The vehicle involved belonged to a family member of the boyfriend.

Williams was arrested Friday at the York County Jail, where she was already being held on a probation hold. She is expected to be arraigned on the arson charge on Monday.


Maine State Police Investigating Shooting Death in Carrabassett Valley

CARRABASSETT VALLEY—On Sunday, March 8, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Franklin County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call reporting the shooting of 23-year-old Makayla Rose Desantis, of Colchester, Connecticut. First responders transported Makayla to MaineHealth Franklin Hospital in Farmington prior to her eventual transport to Maine Medical Center in Portland where she succumbed to her injuries.

Investigators learned that Makayla sustained her injuries at a residence on Left Bank in Carrabassett Valley. On the evening of March 9, 2026, 24-year-old Austin Doucette, of Carrabassett Valley, was arrested and charged with the murder of Makayla Rose Desantis.

This investigation was conducted by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and was assisted by the Carrabassett Valley Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing. Additional information will be released when it’s appropriate to do so.
