TRENTON—A Sunday afternoon fire shut down the Goose Cove Road in Trenton for a bit as fire crews worked to quickly extinguish the fire at the residence.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., the fire department learned of a reported structure fire at 49 Goose Cove Road.

“Initial reports indicated smoke inside the residence, with the occupant attempting to extinguish the fire prior to fire department arrival,” the fire department explained in a social media post.

When fire crews arrived, they made sure that pets and occupants were out of the home.

“The homeowner reported that the fire was believed to have originated in the bathroom, near the exhaust vent fan. Fire crews observed visible smoke pushing from the eaves of the structure,” the department wrote.

Once inside the home, members of the Trenton and Ellsworth Fire Departments found smoke as well as fire in the attic space above the bathroom ceiling.

“The fire had extended into the roof structure and rafters,” the department wrote. “Crews removed portions of the ceiling to access and extinguish the fire and to ensure there was no further extension.”

There was moderate damage to the home. The fire was put out and all fire personnel were able to leave the scene just about an hour later. The department thanked its automatic aid partners: Ellsworth Fire Department, Hancock Fire Department, and Lamoine Fire Department, for their assistance.

“We would also like to thank Mount Desert Fire Department for establishing a Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) on scene,” the department said. It also thanked Versant Power and Northern Light Ambulance for their response and support.
